Poem:
Driving to Town Late to Mail a Letter
In the gentle embrace of twilight, I ride,
Driving through the city with a mission in my heart.
The sun sets, painting the sky in golden hues,
As the moon begins its journey, majestic and bold.
Behind the wheel, my thoughts fly,
A lonely traveler in the night.
I have a letter lying beside me, the words written in ink,
Whispers of love, feelings I have come to think of.
The road ahead is wide, winding and long,
As I navigate the journey, I hum a quiet song.
The twinkling stars, a heavenly guide,
I find comfort in their glory, my fears are banished.
Magnificent trees sway, their branches grow high,
Watching the passing of time like silent sentinels.
Their leaves whisper secrets, ancient stories,
When I drive, I am impressed by the attractiveness of the road.
The wind whispers softly on my face,
Scented with jasmine, a hint of grace.
The lights of the city can be seen in the distance
A ray of hope dispels shadows and fears.
But the clock keeps ticking reminding me of the delay
Time is slipping through my fingers, running out.
An urgency washes over me as I step on the gas.
The weight of a letter cannot be borne in one load.
The streets of the city glow with life and sound,
As I move around in the hustle and bustle, being around.
Pedestrians, their faces unknown,
Still, I feel a connection, a common rhythm we have sown.
The post office beckons, its presence calming,
A shelter of purpose, where letters are collected.
I park the car and step on solid ground,
Intent to complete the task without sound.
Enter the threshold with letter in hand.
A quiet quiet envelope, the place to see.
The clerk greeted me with a smile on his face.
As I kindly placed the letter on the counter.
The stamp is chosen, symbolizing the connection,
Connecting hearts across vast lands, avoiding rejection.
I look at the envelope out of sight,
The messenger of emotion, arrived overnight.
A sense of accomplishment settles deep within,
As soon as I step out of the post office, a new journey begins.
The night embraces me once more, cold and still,
As I retrace my steps, I return to where I was.
Driving back home, a quiet reflection catches,
The road opens before me, the memories open.
The stars are shining guiding me
As I cherish moments, this magical display.
The moon sees, the silver shines,
As I drive through the night, my spirit feels lifted.
A simple act, a letter sent with a hug of love,
Turns the ordinary into a moment of grace.
And feel tired as soon as you reach home.
I close my eyes, grateful for the starry skies.
Because a story is told in this silent journey
Of a letter's journey, and a heart that feels bold.
Going to town late sending letters
A pledge of love, a memory I will cherish.
In times of darkness, when all seems lost,
A simple act of kindness can melt any frost.
So let us cherish these moments, these spur-of-the-moment drives,
When life takes us on unexpected rides.
In the simplicity of sending a letter,
We find peace, connection and love that is better.
