In May 2020, it was reported that Joe Russo had been hired to write the film's sequel, with both Sam Hargrave and Chris Hemsworth returning.[6,7] In December 2020, the Russo Brothers stated that Beyond the sequel, they hope to develop a series of films set in the world of Extraction to not only explore some of the characters introduced in the first film, but potentially launch a cinematic universe. In January 2021, it was rumored that the Russo brothers were also working on an origin story for Randeep Hooda's character Saju.
Even in the grand scheme of Netflix success stories, Evacuation is a uniquely thrilling ride. The Russo brothers' action thriller was well-timed, as the global lockdown of 2020 left people scrambling for something to watch. It was instantly the most popular Netflix movie release of all time, topping the online platform's year-end records. As a result, it looks like Netflix will miss the opportunity to make a sequel. Although the film's critical response was mixed, as one might expect from a relatively straightforward shooter, the fact that Extraction's highly stylized action scenes left people wanting more.

Viewers were quick to discover that the film's ending paved the way for a possible sequel. An early version of the screenplay featured Tyler's death, but after test screenings it was changed to make the ending more ambiguous. With a protagonist who acts as a hired gun, the sequel could go in any direction and take place anywhere.

Extraction 2: The plot
In May of last year, Deadline reported that producer Joe Russo had signed a deal to write the film's sequel. Shot in Prague, director Sam Hargreave posted a photo on Instagram suggesting that Extraction 2 will take a more wintery approach after the first film's Middle Eastern setting.

Extraction 2 was to be shot in Australia. Netflix and producers Joe and Anthony Russo's production company AGBO Productions informed the crew, who were in pre-production in New South Wales, that they were packing up the production and moving it to Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. The change in filming locations for Extraction 2 came shortly after a confirmed case of COVID-19 was identified among team members. In response to the COVID-19 delta variant, New South Wales, as well as Sydney and Melbourne, other major filming locations in the country were closed until September 30.
